Whoa.

Our story

Two people, a few good horses, and a microphone.

John & Ranae with Jessie and Dusty.

“You own a horse. Now what? The one thing for certain is your need to learn more.”

John and Ranae Harrer started Whoa with a simple idea: the best way to become a better horseman is to listen to people who've spent their lives in the saddle. Every week they sat down with clinicians, ranchers, veterinarians, farriers, rodeo kids and backyard riders to talk tack, training, care and the stories that come with it.

John brings a storyteller's ear from his creative work behind the camera and the mic. Ranae keeps the conversation honest and grounded in the day-to-day of living with horses. Together they've built a library that's as useful to a first-time owner as it is to a lifelong hand.

Why “Whoa.”

In horse parlance, whoa means stop — and stop matters. Horses can always go, but as a recreational rider you feel a whole lot better when you say “Whoa” and your horse actually stops.

It's also a friendly invitation: whoa, stop on by and listen to the podcast. That's the period at the end of the name.
