August 15, 2023 by John Leave a Comment

Horse Fly Spray Solution: ‘Stop Buggn’

Introduction to Michele Navarro

Horse Fly SprayAre you on the hunt for an effective horse fly spray? Look no further. Today, we’re spotlighting Michele Navarro, an expert in the horse world and an innovator in the realm of horse fly spray solutions. Besides running a diverse ranch in Gilroy, California, Michele faces a problem common to many: the persistent nuisance of flies.

Why ‘Stop Buggn’ is the Horse Fly Spray You Need

It’s not just any fly spray; it’s a horse fly spray that prioritizes the well-being of your animal. Why should ‘Stop Buggn’ be your go-to fly spray? Firstly, it boasts natural ingredients, ensuring no harmful chemicals touch your horses. Secondly, unlike many other fly sprays, this one comes with a pleasant aroma. Most importantly, after using it for two weeks, I can attest to its effectiveness.

Horse Fly SprayBenefits of Choosing ‘Stop Buggn’ Horse Fly Spray

Given the plethora of horse fly sprays on the market, why choose ‘Stop Buggn’?

  1. Natural Ingredients: Many horse fly sprays have overpowering chemical scents. ‘Stop Buggn’, however, is an exception with its natural composition and pleasant smell.
  2. Cost-Effective: For those skeptical about the often high costs of organic products, this fly spray won’t strain your budget.
  3. Support Local: Opting for ‘Stop Buggn’ means supporting a local business. Michele operates not far from Bakersfield, making it feel like supporting a community member.

Final Thoughts

This episode might come across as promotional, but it’s rare for me to champion products. ‘Stop Buggn’ isn’t just any product; it’s a fly spray that genuinely delivers. So, if flies are causing havoc in your barn, consider Stop Buggn. And for more insights, swing by Whoa Podcast.

Bill Oliver Master Horseman

April 25, 2023 by John Leave a Comment

Bill Oliver HorsemanshipBill Oliver Horsemanship: A Lifetime of Experience with Horses

Bill Oliver has dedicated his life to working with horses. He grew up in Eureka, California, where he developed a love for riding, packing, and hunting in the Cascade Mountains. His passion for horses only grew as he moved to Wyoming and worked for Wilderness outfitters after high school.

In 1991, Bill joined the Forestry Service as a Lead Packer. He was already skilled in packing and riding, but he wanted to learn more about horses. That’s when he came across trainers Monte Roberts and the Dorrance Brothers. Bill realized he had much to learn from them and their approach to Natural Horsemanship.

With his newfound knowledge and experience, Bill retired from the Forest Service and trained horses for the Top-Notch Horse Sale in Cody. It was then that he realized he had a unique style of Natural Horsemanship that he wanted to share with others.

Oliver Horsemanship: Sharing Knowledge and Experience

Bill and his wife Jody formed Oliver Horsemanship, a company that aims to educate and share their expertise with others. Bill’s approach to Natural Horsemanship emphasizes the horse’s physical and mental well-being. It focuses on creating a willing partnership between horse and rider through understanding and respect.

This year, Bill has a full schedule of clinics that range from basic horsemanship to roping and colt starting. These clinics provide a great opportunity for horse enthusiasts to learn from a master horseman who has spent his life working with horses.

Basic Horsemanship Clinic: Building a Solid Foundation

Bill Oliver HorsemanshipThey designed the Basic Horsemanship Clinic for riders who are just starting or those who want to refresh their skills. This clinic covers everything from proper horse handling and care to riding techniques. Participants will learn how to establish a bond with their horse and develop a solid foundation that they can build on.

Roping Clinic: Learning the Ropes

They designed the Roping Clinic for riders who want to learn the art of roping. Participants will learn the basics of roping and how to safely and effectively use a rope. This clinic is perfect for those who want to try their hand at ranch work or rodeo events.

Colt Starting Clinic: Starting Young Horses on the Right Foot

They designed the Colt Starting Clinic for riders who want to start young horses on the right foot. Participants will learn how to properly introduce a horse to riding and how to develop a strong foundation for future training. This clinic is perfect for those who want to train their own horses or start a career in horse training.

Bill Oliver’s lifetime of experience with horses has made him a master horseman. His dedication to Natural Horsemanship and his unique style of training have led him to form Oliver Horsemanship with his wife Jody. Their company provides a great opportunity for horse enthusiasts to learn from a true expert in the field.

The Art of Colt Starting with Shawn Dunn

February 14, 2023 by John Leave a Comment

Mastering the Art of Colt Starting with Shawn Dunn

shawn dunnAs a seasoned colt starter with over three decades of experience working with horses across the country, Shawn Dunn has a unique insight into the art of colt starting. From the basics of training to the finer details of horse behavior, Shawn has seen it all and is eager to share his knowledge with others.

In this episode, we delve into the world of colt starting and learn about Shawn’s approach to horse training. We also explore the importance of starting a horse off on the right foot and the long-term impact it can have on the horse’s life.

The Art of Colt Starting

Colt starting is often considered an art form, requiring a special set of skills and a deep understanding of horse behavior. It is the process of taking a young horse and teaching it the basics of life under saddle.

According to Shawn, the key to successful colt starting is understanding that each horse is unique and requires a tailored approach. He believes that the earlier you start training a horse, the better off they will be in the long run.

“The best dog I ever had was the one I began training at 7 weeks old,” says Shawn. “The start kids get in pre-school is so important to how they will grow up. So, why should it be any different with horses?”

Training Techniques

Shawn’s approach to colt starting centers around building a strong foundation of trust and respect between horse and handler. He believes that creating a safe and secure environment for the horse is crucial for their growth and development.

One of Shawn’s favorite training techniques is the use of groundwork, which he describes as “teaching the horse to understand the language of the handler.” This can include simple exercises like leading, lunging, and ground driving.

By working with the horse on the ground, Shawn can establish a clear communication line and build trust with the horse before getting on its back. He believes that this approach results in a smoother and more positive riding experience for both horse and rider.

Josh Lyons Horsemanship

January 31, 2023 by John Leave a Comment

Josh Lyons Horsemanship

Josh Lyons grew up learning horsemanship from his dad. John Lyons was one of the first trainers I remember seeing on Josh Lyons back in the early 2000s. I was new to horses and really did not know what I was doing. The TV show showed me there was a whole style of horsemanship that was effective and, with work and study, easy for anyone to learn.

Back in 2017, I was lucky enough to catch up and interview Josh’s sister, Brandi, about her Lyons’s No Limit Clinic. This year, I was working on some basic exercises, and I remembered watching John Lyons TV program, and that got me thinking about the Lyons’ Horsemanship Philosophy. A little research, and email to Josh’s office, and I connected with Josh.

Josh Lyons Legacy Training

As part of the Lyons legacy program, Josh is educating horse trainers in every discipline. Education is important to Josh. He wants his trainers to succeed. The Legacy program gives people the right tools to train horses. The Colorado Department of Higher Education, Private Occupational School Board, approve and regulates the Lyons Legacy Program. And, because Josh wants to give back to veterans, his Legacy program went through the stringent qualifications to qualify students for VA benefits.
