Our Story
Back in 2011, I came up with the idea of starting a podcast where my wife and I could share our experiences about our horses and horsemanship. While neither one of us has public speaking experience, we do have a good sense of humor and don’t take ourselves to seriously. With these two ingredients we thought this would be a fun project to do together. Learning about podcasting is not as much fun as spending time with our horses, but it gives us something to do when it’s too cold or wet to ride. THE unexpected benefit has been all the great horse people we’ve met who are willing to share their knowledge.
Over the course of the first year we have grown and have had downloads from over 40 different countries. Initially, we came up with the name DUH Podcast for two reasons. Almost everything we learned about horse behavior came from studying Clinton Anderson’s Downunder Horsemanship Method and I thought we would have many of the No Worries Club members joining us to share their experiences. While naming our podcast after our virtual mentor was meant as an homage, I did not realize we would piggy-back on his marketing and reputation and that some people would think we were officially associated with his company, which we are not. So, it’s time we stand alone. Our new name is the Whoa Podcast About Horses and Horsemanship and we hope you’ll find time to “stop” by and give a listen.
We’re old. We don’t have much time left. We want to learn as much as we can, as fast as we can. By changing our name we can invite other folks in the horse industry to the podcast. More importantly, we want to encourage you to share your experiences too. Anyone who has spent time around horses knows what joy, comfort, and companionship they can bring. But you also know some of the challenges that go along with horse ownership, too. Through our little podcast we hope to establish a kind of support group to learn about and face those challenges. We want to build a safer, stronger bond with our horses and, if that’s one of your goals too, we hope you will join us.
